Rann Utsav 2026–27: Where to Stay and How to Plan

Rann Utsav is Gujarat’s celebration of the White Rann — weeks of folk music, crafts, food and full-moon nights on the salt desert. If you are planning a trip for the 2026–27 season, this guide covers when to go, how to get there and how to choose a comfortable place to stay.
What is Rann Utsav?
Rann Utsav is a winter festival held at Dhordo, at the edge of the White Rann of Kutch. Visitors come for the endless white salt desert, cultural performances, handicraft stalls from local artisans and, above all, the experience of standing on the salt under a full moon.
When does it take place?
The festival usually runs through the cool months, roughly from November to February, with exact dates announced each year by Gujarat Tourism. Full-moon dates are the most popular (and the busiest), so plan and book early if you want to visit around a full moon.
Permits for the White Rann
An entry permit is required to visit the White Rann. It can usually be obtained online or at the checkpost on the way to Dhordo. Rules and fees change from time to time, so check the latest information before you travel and carry a valid photo ID for every traveller.
Getting there
- By air: Bhuj is the nearest airport. Ahmedabad has many more flights and connects to Bhuj by road and rail.
- By train: Bhuj railway station is the nearest railhead.
- By road: Most travellers hire a car or taxi from Bhuj. Having your own vehicle makes it easy to combine Dhordo with the Road to Heaven, Kala Dungar and Dholavira.
Where to stay for Rann Utsav
You have two broad choices: stay inside the festival tent city at Dhordo, or stay at a resort elsewhere in the Rann and drive to the White Rann for the evening. Many travellers prefer the second option — it is often better value, quieter and lets you see more of Kutch.
Road to Heaven Resort is about 50 km from the White Rann at Dhordo and sits right beside the Road to Heaven. It is an ideal base if you also want to visit Dholavira (31 km) and Kala Dungar (30 km). Our 28 air-conditioned tents have attached bathrooms and private sit-outs, and breakfast and dinner are included.
